This Easter play begins on Resurrection Day morning as the four women are on their way to the tomb. The story follows the events of Easter Sunday in the four gospels harmonizing them in a chronological order and finishing with the ascension in Matthew 28. All of the lines of Jesus are taken directly from scripture. In fact, the biblical accounts are intact and only fictional lines were added to the scenes to help them flow and receive a dramatic tone, without changing the meaning or the story itself. Good parts for actors playing Mary Magdalene, Mary (Jesus’ mother) and Peter. And as always, playing Jesus is a challenge. The play "Witnesses" contains some of the same scenes. This play is taken from the much larger play, "Scenes from the Life of Christ." Some of the scenes are broken up and sold on this site as skits, including: On the Way to the Tomb, On the Road to Emmaus, Burning Hearts, Believing Thomas and Sorrow Turned to Joy. If you are looking for a biblical play to do for Easter... this may be the Christian play for you.
23 actors (18 male and 5 female) all adult or older teens. 50-60 minutes.

60+ speaking parts total plus extras (at least 40 males) About 2 hours in length.
This play follows the biblical account of Esther rather closely with some added dialogue for dramatic effect. Even though the book of Esther does not mention God or prayer, this story talks openly of what was obvious: her faith in God.. and how important prayer and fasting was to her, Mordecai, and their people in asking God to spare them.
Esther, Mordecai, Haman and Ahasuerus are all good size parts. Can be done with 12-15 actors or more with extras. (6 male, 5 female with speaking parts) Close to equal parts for males and females. Costumes and sets can be fun to design as simple or as elaberate as you like. Approx. 45 mins.
This play works well for children or adults. It is the simple story of the birth of Christ with a very small cast. Easy to add extras. Adding songs to it will make a nice musical production. Easy to do with easy sets and typical Bible costumes. Mary and Joseph have the most lines and they talk about what they have witnessed and how they feel. The wise men also play a big part as this deals with their visit, too.
This is written as a one-woman monologue, but it could be done with multiple actors. A newswoman (or man) interviews six women from the Bible, each very different, which could allow an actress to show much range, playing several characters. They include: Leah, Jezebel, Esther, Ruth, Deborah and Mary. If the sketch is too long, it can be easily adapted and shortened by removing some of the characters.
One actress. About 9 minutes as written... can be easily shortened.
This biblical account begins when Jesus first appears to the disciples in the upper room after his resurrection. Some of the same scenes are in "The Sun Has Risen" but this play goes on to tell the story of the Day of Pentecost.
Can be as few as 12 actors plus narrator (3 females)extras can be used. 20-25 minutes.
This was done as a Children's Musical, but there was only one original song. The rest of the songs were borrowed from other places. It does work well as a musical with costumes. Joey is in the Children's Choir and he falls asleep after the performance and dreams that he is back in the time of Jesus' birth as one of the children of Bethlehem. Jonas and Deborah live in the Inn that is run by their parents. Mary and Joseph come by asking for a room...and get sent to the stable. The kids are all excited about a baby being born in their stable that night. Micah is a shepherd boy who wants to be able to stay up all night with his older brother and the other shepherds to watch the sheep.. so he hides out after he and the other children were sent home. Jedidiah is his brother, who loves to study the scriptures..and knows a lot about the prophesies concerning the Messiah. The angel appears to them and they immediately believe that this baby is the one they have been waiting for. They hurry to see the baby and worship him telling Joseph and Mary about the angels. As they leave, they see Jonas and Deborah and tell them, too. They tell their dad, who doesn't believe them that the baby is the Messiah, and sends them off to bed. Joey is wakened by his mother, and he tells her about his dream. He decides to give his heart to Jesus.
Cast of 22 (12 male, 10 female, some adults can be used), plus extras and Children's Choir. Depending on how many songs are used, time is 60-90 mins. Dramatic portion is about 25-30 mins. This can also be used as a short non-musical play.
I wrote this play about 20 years ago, but I have recently reworked it and added to it. I used the passages from Matthew and Luke as my base and then used my imagination to create a story about Mary and Joseph. It opens with a scene involving Mary, her mother, and a friend discussing her engagement to Joseph. Then the angel's appearing and then Mary trying to explain to Joseph what happened. I deal with his possible reaction and decision to protect her from disgrace. Then the dream with the angel's visit and finally the Bethlehem scenes: A very busy Inn with stressed out Innkeepers and guests, frightened shepherds on a hill who are visited by an angel, and a cozy scene at the end with Mary and Joseph with the baby in the stable, discussing how God was working in their lives, and committing to Him and whatever He wants for them as parents of Jesus.
Dialogue portion is about 40 minutes. Songs could be added to enhance it and make it a musical. Cast of 4 women and 5 men (mostly teen and adult) plus 7-10 extras (some with a few lines)
You can't beat this price for this very popular Bible story. Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego find themselves having to take a stand and not bow before the king's new image. They believe that God will either deliver them from the fiery furnace or give them help to make it through the pain. Follows the Daniel passage closely. King Nebuchadnezzar is a very large part.
9 male actors (1 is an extra) 30 minutes. Creative ideas needed for fiery furnace.
This is a (re-written) mostly female sketch about Jochebed's choice to hide her baby in a basket and send him down the Nile River to hopefully spare his life. It follows the biblical account as close as possible, with what little there is to know, and some created fictional dialogue to dramatize it better. The other characters are Miriam, the sister of Moses, the Pharaoh, his wife and daughter, her friends, a guard and two other women, one a friend and the other, the midwife. This sketch has been doubled in size and cast recently. The Egyptian scenes have a lot of fiction. Very affordable.
11 actors (9 female, 2 male) Biblical set and costumes (contrasting between poor Hebrews and wealthy Egyptians) . About 30 mins.
This is a short two man drama about Paul and Silas in prison. The other characters in the story are off stage as Paul and Silas, alone on stage discuss their capture, beating and experiences... and soon begin singing and worshiping the Lord while in stocks. It may take some creativity to make the earthquake seem real, but that will be fun to make happen.
This is a short EASTER skit that takes place in the upper room where the disciples and other followers have gathered to talk about the appearances of Jesus. The women arrive and share what they have seen, and then Cleopas and his friend, too. Finally, Jesus appears and reveals himself to all of them. This skit is also a scene in the plays "The Sun Has Risen" and "Witnesses".
13 male actors, 5 females, all adult or older teens. About 8 minutes.
